The third season of Battlestar Galactica was first broadcast on the Sci-Fi Chnnel on October 6th 2006 and ran for 20 episodes without any extended break in the middle of the season (as SciFi often does with its shows).

The early episodes focused on resolving the New Caprica story arc that had started in the previous season. After that it moved to a largely stand alone episode format which was different from the previous season. This move was the result of pressure from Sci-Fi Channel who believed it would increase ratings. The reverse turned out to be true.
