Dakota Fanning To Voice Animated Coraline

Actress Dakota Fanning has signed to voice the character Coraline in the animated movie based on the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name. The animated movie of Coraline will be written and directed by Henry Selick (Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas).

The story of Coraline is about a young girl (Coraline) who discovers an alternate versio of her life after walking through a secret door in her new house. This parallel version of her life is seems much better. However the adventure turns dangerous when the girls counterfeit parents try to keep her forever.

Coraline has been compared to Alice in Wonderland and won both the 2003 Hugo and Nebula award for Best Novella in 2003.

The plan is to have the movie use computer generated animation when Coraline is in the real world and switch to stop-motion animation when Coraline is exploring the parallel universe. The Coraline animated movie is planned for a 2007 release.
