Sci Fi Wire is reporting that Frank Miller envisages some five movies based on his Sin City graphic novels. The first movie, Sin City, which he co-directed with Robert Rodriguez was released earlier this year. In an interview, Miller says that he’s currently finishing up the script for Sin City 2 and goes on to say:
“I can’t wait to get back behind the camera. If I have my way, there’s going to be five. But that’s if I have my way! Five would take care of all the graphic novels. But there’s new material that I’m writing for the second one. There’ll probably also be a separate graphic novel that I’ll do. It’s a Nancy Callahan story that I’ve been wanting to do.”
I’m not sure that the movie franchise will support a further four Sin City movies, though I’d be happy to be proved wrong. I suspect though that once some of the newness of the style (both camera work and story) wears off that sequels won’t perform as well as the first Sin City movie. Still if Miller intends on adding some new material to each of the movies, that sounds pretty cool.
Sin City 2 is scheduled for release on August 18th 2006 and its success (along with his co-director’s credit) has lead to Frank Miller currently directing 300 which is based on another graphic novel of his about the Battle of Thermopylae.Eoghann Irving is amongst other things the creator and Editor of Solar Flare.
