Providing the Information That Sci-Fi Fans Need

The Hobbit; Superman; Magneto; Clash of the Titans; Red Sonja

Lots of Hobbit movie rumors swirling around right now. When it was first announced that Guillermo del Toro was set to direct they also announced that there would be two movies. Since then it really hasn’t been clear exactly what that means. Some speculated it meant they would split The Hobbit into two films. Then it was suggested that the second film would be something entirely new.

Well del Toro has been attempting to clear up all these rumors. Apparently he may not be filming the movies back to back. In fact if he’s to be believed he’ll only shoot a second movie if he can find the right story. It seems that since they have the rights to all of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, they can use anything from the Appendices in order to find a story to tell. Color me dubious still.

Filmstalker reports that the Superman sequel could start production in 2009. This is all fairly unofficial mind you. The script is being written but nothing else is set in stone. I was very disappointed by Superman Returns so I hope the next movie takes a radically different slant.

Sal’s Scripts has a review of the script of Magneto. I’m just not sure about this one. Magneto is a very interesting character, I’m just not quite sure if you can hang an entire movie on him on his own.

Louis Leterrier (Incredible Hulk) will be directing the remake of Clash of the Titans from a script by Lawrence Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back). It’s not a bad pedigree and modern special effects could be used to good effect on this remake.

Red Sonja enters production in October 2008. It will star Rose McGowan and be directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Will Helena Bonham Carter join the cast of Terminator 4? Not sure but if she does then alongside Christian Bale, this movie will have more acting chops than the previous three put together. Then again it is going to be directed by McG…

The Dark Knight is coming out and already talk is turning to the third movie in the franchise. That third movie may not be directed by Christopher Nolan. Or maybe he’s just being coy. Don’t expect to see a new Joker though. Instead Batman might face up against the Riddler.

Slice of SciFi says there will be a sequel to 300. Not sure how that will work exactly but the script is by Frank Miller so it’s promising at least.

Want to see an HD trailer for the next Bond movie Quantum of Solace? It looks darker and grittier than we’ve seen before. Very slick too. I suspect that title will be the only sci-fi element to the movie.

  1. From what I’ve read on Comingsoon.net, it sounds like Guillermo del Toro is booked solid for the next 20 years! I just hope he hasn’t bitten off more than he can chew. Supposedly he also wants to do a “Frankenstein” remake, and an adaptation of Lovecraft’s “At the Mountains of Madness,” and “Doctor Strange” from a Neil Gaiman-penned script. There’s probably more that I’m forgetting.

“Red Sonja” with Rose McGowan sounds especially interesting. The 80’s film with Brigitte Neilson was really bad.

Manxom Vrooms last blog post..Another great pic of the man.

  2. I think the Frankenstein movie has been a pet project of del Toro’s for some time, and I’d be very interested to see what he would do with it. I hadn’t heard about At the Mountains of Madness, but with two Hobbit movies and probably another Hellboy movie, he’s going to be a very busy man.

And after that many blockbusters he ought to be able to write his own ticket.

Ye, I don’t know if I want to see del Toro do a Frankenstein movie. But I am looking forward to the new Superman and Hobbit. Went to see the Dark Knight the other day, well worth watching.
