Lionsgate has parterned with nine arts schools to created nine student-designed advertising campaigns for The Spirit. The Spirit Art School Program was launched at Comic Con this past weekend where The Art Institute of California-San Diego introduced their campaign.
Spirit inspired Neighborhood Watch signs are posted in strategic locations around the city of San Diego. There were also a series of specially designed Spirit cups that were used at all the Comic Con concession stands. The cups bore the unique signatures of the films four femmes fatales: Silken Floss, Sand Saref, Ellen Dolan and Lorelei Rox.
The other 8 campaigns will be rolled out over the course of the summer. The colleges participating are: The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise in Los Angeles; School of the Art Institute of Chicago; The Art Institute of New York; The Art Institute of California – San Francisco; The Art Institute of California – San Diego, Miami Ad School; The Art Institute of Washington; The Art Institute of Philadelphia; and The New England Institute of Art.
The Spirit is a movie adaptation of the classic adventure comic strip The Spirit. Written and directed by Frank Miller (300 Sin City) the movie tells the story of a rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as The Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) is going to wipe out the city in pursuit of his own version of immortality.
